Returns & Refunds

At The Waters and the Wild, we deal in objects with histories: rare books, antiques, curiosities and things that have survived the passing of years. Many are singular pieces, bearing the marks of their age and former lives.

We take considerable care in describing, photographing and packing each object, and hope that every acquisition brings lasting pleasure. Should something not be quite right, the following explains how returns and refunds are handled.

Your Right to Cancel

If you are purchasing as a consumer online, you have the right to cancel your order within 14 days of receiving your goods, without giving a reason, in accordance with the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.

To exercise this right, please notify us by email within 14 days of delivery, quoting your order number. You then have a further 14 days in which to return the item.

We ask that you contact us before dispatching a return so that we can provide the appropriate return address and packing instructions.

Returning an Item

Many of the objects in our collection are fragile, irreplaceable or unusually shaped. We therefore ask that returned goods are packed with the same care with which they were sent, preferably using their original protective materials.

Unless the item is faulty, damaged or incorrectly described, the cost of return postage is the responsibility of the purchaser.

We recommend using a tracked and appropriately insured delivery service, particularly for valuable or delicate objects.

You are entitled to examine an item as you would in a shop. Where handling beyond what is necessary to establish its nature, characteristics or condition has diminished its value, we may make a deduction from the refund as permitted by law.

Refunds

Where an order is cancelled within the statutory cancellation period, we will refund the purchase price together with the cost of our least expensive standard delivery option.

Additional charges for enhanced or express delivery are not refundable beyond the cost of standard delivery.

Refunds will be made to the original payment method, without undue delay and no later than 14 days after we receive the returned goods or evidence that they have been sent back, whichever is earlier.

There are no restocking fees.

Antique & Vintage Objects

The nature of our collection means that many pieces exhibit wear, patination, repairs or other characteristics acquired over decades or centuries.

We endeavour to describe these faithfully, and such characteristics do not necessarily constitute faults.

Nevertheless, the age, rarity or one-of-a-kind nature of an object does not remove your statutory right to cancel an eligible online purchase.

We encourage you to read descriptions carefully and examine the accompanying photographs. If you would like further information about an object's condition before purchasing, we are always pleased to assist.

Damaged, Faulty or Incorrectly Described Goods

Should an item arrive damaged, faulty or materially different from its description, please contact us as soon as reasonably possible, ideally with photographs of the item and its packaging.

We will work with you to arrange an appropriate remedy in accordance with your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Where a return is required because goods are faulty or not as described, we will bear reasonable return costs.

Your statutory rights are not affected by any provision of this policy.

International Returns

Customers ordering from outside the United Kingdom should contact us before arranging a return.

Where applicable, we will provide guidance on the documentation required to identify the parcel as returned merchandise. Customs duties, import taxes and associated charges are subject to the rules of the relevant authorities.

Nothing in this section limits any mandatory consumer rights applicable to your purchase.
