Albero Della Morte Candlestick: Yew, early 18th Century
Here comes a candle to light you to bed - or rather, yew. Yes, a tantalising Yew Candlestick. Perfect for lighting the way for spirit journeys, death doulas or a little light parlour room divination.
I’ve always been enamoured by the third witch in Macbeth, who adds ‘slips of yew sliver’d in the moon’s eclipse’ to the hell broth in the cauldron. A few sharply delicious pieces of death hidden in the dark of the night. Yew trees, as you know, can live for thousands of years and are a deep, abiding symbol of rebirth, able to drop branches that take new root. And so, there is something fitting about this hand-turned candlestick that is carved from death and, yet, holds light with the vibrations of the many hands who held it still sunken deep into the grain.
