Behold the bats with outstretched wings, ready to hold the flames as you dance, malefic. O heed Dante, who recalled the Devil himself with featherless wings in the fashion of a bat.
Tell me more, I hear you whisper - and I shall. These bronze sconces remain one of the most sought-after designs associated with the 18th Century, designed by William Tonks & Sons for Liberty & Co. It is said bats carry messages between the witch and the Devil himself - but, of course, you know that. Remember that night you placed one hand on your head and the other on your foot and offered everything in between to the horned one? Now it is time to place a candle in these sconces and let these chiroptera carry your mutterings straight to the man in black.
Whisper with me,
Hreremus, hreremus, twilight stutter,
laltag, rattlemouse, candle flutter,
hreremus, hreremus, light the way,
laltag, rattlemouse, ‘til break of day.
Dimensions: 32 cm x 22 cm.
